World Diabetes Day

Today is World Diabetes Day.

World Diabetes Day is the world’s largest diabetes awareness campaign. It is marked every year on 14 November, the birthday of Sir Frederick Banting, who co-discovered insulin in 1921.

Globally, 537 million people are living with diabetes – that’s about 1 in every 10 adults whose well-being is potentially being impacted by diabetes.

63 % of people with diabetes surveyed by the International Diabetes Federation say that the fear of developing diabetes-related complications affects their well-being.

Diabetic Foot Ulcer prevention

  • Diabetic Foot Ulcers (DFU) are one of the most common complications, affecting up to 34 % of people living with diabetes.
  • Extensive research shows skin breakdown takes place with persistent >2°C elevated temperature for up to 10 days
  • Up to 75 % of diabetic foot ulcers can be prevented by early detection
  • Up to 91 % of pre-ulcerous sites can be identified by the detection of temperature anomalies
