A research study has been launched at the University of Tampere with the goal of preventing injuries among figure skaters using thermal imaging. The study will examine what types of injuries occur in the sport and whether they can be predicted and prevented in the future.
The study will be conducted during 2025–2026 using Thermidas’ IRT-384 thermal imaging system, and the results will be published in international peer-reviewed scientific journals. The study has received official approval and has been approved by the Pirkanmaa Welfare Region Medical Research Ethics Committee.
The research, conducted by doctoral researcher Saara Eriksson, will be supervised by Nikke Partio, a specialist in orthopedics and traumatology, and Kerttu Toivo, a specialist in sports medicine.
