Thermidas has received an innovation award for the prevention of pressure ulcers in care homes using thermal imaging. The Future of Care Work research project organizes the competition.
A thermal imaging-based method can accurately and objectively identify pressure ulcers before visual inspection detects them. Pressure ulcers cause pain, impair function, and reduce quality of life.
In Finland alone, an estimated 55,000–85,000 patients develop pressure ulcers each year, and the associated costs exceed €500 million. Prevention is estimated to cost only a fraction of this.
